Lunch Fun [Apr. 17th, 2008|01:39 pm]

Yes, kids, the CRS is in full swing. (That's Can't Remember BeginswithSandmeanspoo, for you youngsters...)

Called the captain to see if he needed anything from the hardware store, 'cause I was going to run over on my lunch break. (Lunch break. I spent so much of my life in retail/foodservice mgmt and working for myself that the concept still amuses me.) He gives me an epoxy order. I hang up and realize...I have no idea what *I* was going to the store for. None. Called him back on the offchance that at some point I had carelessly mentioned my mission...nope.

So, in the hopes that proximity would help, I headed out the Lowes...mentally walking down each aisle trying to remember...thankfully some commercial came on about lawn seed and then I remembered -- a broom (to sweep off the cut grass that's all over the front walk) since Winter ate my last one. And a sharpening tool for my dremel so that we can stop cutting the lawn with a butter knife. Whew.

Of course, I realized driving away, that I'd forgotten to pick up the Captain's epoxy...

While out, I saw two bumper stickers that made me giggle. The first, a bumper sticker that said: "I heart my German Shepherd". Which isn't funny, except that right underneath it -- with no space whatsoever in between -- was a bumper sticker that said "Pope Benedict the XVI". What an odd name for a dog....

The other: "Be nice to America or we'll bring Democracy to your country"

Which is still making me snort.

Since there was just the discussion about humor impairment on the other thread, I hesitate a bit to ask....did you really not get this? It was all one bumper sticker. "German Shepherd" is one of the current Pope's nicknames. Catholics often refer to bishops as "shepherds" -- that's the reason one of the regalia of office is a crozier. And Benedict XVI, before his elevation to Pope, was Josef Cardinal Ratzinger, a German. One of his other nicknames, which I think is cuter, is "Papa Ratzi."

NOT this one. The top bumper sticker was white, had a german shepherd dog on it and was considerably older (faded and scratched) than the Pope one.

I'll give you that it could be a homemade version of a ready made one...and maybe they didn't mean it to be funny, but with the dog on there....

You have to admire the sheer cheapness of it...unless, of course, someone else slapped the Pope Benedict one on there to play a trick. And the dog is funny, especially since Benedict is known to be a cat person....
