Thank you [Sep. 29th, 2008|01:25 pm]

Thank you, everyone who respected my space this weekend. It meant a lot -- more than expressions of sympathy or comfort...which would have made me cry and I really, really HATE doing that in public.

Percy seems to be doing far better than I expected. We originally got Willow because Percy couldn't be left alone -- well, he COULD, but it meant chewed up furniture and doorknobs and while my shins and hips were liking the "no more corners on any of the furniture" thing, I was starting to run out of wood.

But, clearly he's mellowed in his dotage because the cats seem to be enough to keep him company. We're aiming to become a one-dog family for a while -- or eventually...since Percy's reaching his expiration date as well, I'm undecided what's the best thing to do -- wait until he goes, although I fear the empty house, although am already calculating the savings in poop bags and dog food, or bring one in before he goes -- it is easier to "break in" a new grey when you've already got one. But we won't even think about it until after MDRF is over.

Everyone deserves their space. I'm just glad that I was able to bring a smile to your face or a laugh at my innane stupidity.

Hugz! See you this coming (hopefully drier) weekend!

:)

Something you might find humorous - I never heard of breaking in or acclimating a greyhound before I met y'all w/HMH.

Seriously.

Rocket (the one we rescued from a cold winter night) had no acclimation at all -- I dumped him square in the middle of a 3 dog house hold (a dauschaund mix, a lab/birddog/shepherd mix, and a registered doberman that had been attacktrained) without nary a care in the world.

Ignorance truly *is* bliss ya know ............

oh and the attack trained dobie? yeah we got her from the rescue place but we only dumped her in a 2 dog household ... I cringe when I think how wrong THAT could've gone .......

Oh -- it doesn't have to be a greyhound to teach them the ropes -- any other dog can teach them to walk up stairs or what "go for a walk" means or "how not to panic when he/she walks out of the room", etc. I just only happen to have greyhounds hanging around my house.

It took a lot for me not to do the full body hug-n-comfort, but it wasn't what you needed, not everybody works the same way I do. But let me know if you ever want a full body hug-n-comfort, 'kay? There's one with your name on it...

I felt the same way, from a distance, of course- but I totally get the needing to sort of set aside the grief and just function as normally as possible while in a huge group of people. I still can't accept much sympathy over Ranzo's death- not that I don't appreciate it, it's just... too much.

Anyway. Sorry about sweet Willow. She was a very lucky dog to be with you and your household.
