Oh, the vagaries of spring [Mar. 1st, 2012|09:15 am]
Dear Weather. Cold and rainy yesterday, 70 degrees today. Snow a couple of days ago, 65 degrees a couple of days before that. Look, I don’t CARE – fall, winter, spring – just PICK one for crying out loud. The only thing I can be certain of right now is that whatever I’m wearing…it will be the WRONG thing for the weather.

Of course, this kind of weather always sets me aquiver because the garden starts to come alive – my Hellbores are blooming all over the place, the anti-squirrel devices I used to keep my new crocus bulbs safe worked and the new front garden is popping with purple, the mints are roaring out their pots already.

And I had a lovely surprise with a small patch of snowdrops coming up in a corner of the yard that I cleaned out this past year…even though I’ve never planted snow drops…so these must be old bulbs, pre-me, that I’ve finally managed to give enough space and nutrients to, and they’ve decided to give life another try. And, I kept looking over at them throughout the day, as I puttered around the yard, smiling each time at the tenacity of life. And then I looked over and what did I see but a honeybee on them, which means that the hive (wherever it is) survived the winter; I was so concerned that they’d taken up residence in the rotting roof over the addition and that fixing that would mean the end of them. Bee and snowdrop made me inordinately happy and reminded me that joy can be right…THERE. You just have to allow yourself time to see it. And, since a little part of me was thinking how silly to be made so happy by such a little thing…I think, give yourself permission to let your heart swell over something small.

my only complaint is all the random daily changes are making my sinuses go nuts

and we're probably going to end up with buzzard sized mosquitoes this year, carrying off children, the aged, and small soccer mom vehicles to devour in the woods since we never got the blast freeze to deal with them during what has passed for winter
