Pansies! [Mar. 16th, 2012|01:57 pm]
The inside of my car smells like pansies. It's one of my favorite smells in the world. I don't even know that it's a good smell...like roses or lavender. But it's a signifier smell. The smell of tomato leaves makes me happy because Summer! Tomatoes! Pansies, like forsythia scent, just scream YAH, Spring is IMMINENT! You know what's coming? Your favorite color in the world, that pale, nearly fluorescent green that ONLY looks good on the very tips of tree stems. Imminent! Anticipation! Whee!

Huffing pansies makes me giddy.

I know. It's sort of scary, isn't it? Me giddy is like a rhinoceros giddy. It just doesn't suit. It's alarming. But I'm back from lunch, about to throw myself against the windmill of work, so I can feel the giddy evaporating like a teaspoon of water on a hot sidewalk.

I went to the garden center intending to buy dark red and dark purple ones, as I've seen a couple of plantings like that and it's so RICH looking. But I got there and picked those out and....FACES. I am a sucker for pansy faces. So I wound up putting those back and picking up two market packs of purples, one with yellow faces the other with darker purple faces. Like smiles, look at the little whiskers, they're so damn HAPPY looking! And a market pack of johnny jump ups, because who can resist those adorable faces when they're TINY. They rode back to work with me, sitting in the passenger seat, those adorable happy pansy faces, nodding contentedly next to me, like they're HAPPY to go home with me. And Sunday I'll pot them up and I will have ADORABLE HAPPY PANSY FACES to welcome me home every day, all spring.

Ahem. Apparently not ALL of the giddy evaporated.

I LOVE the smell of tomato plant leaves. And I totally agree with you about that pale green that shows up at the very beginning of spring. It's so full of light.
