Evil comes in a small plastic container and they sell it at Giant [Jun. 14th, 2007|08:34 am]
[Current Music |Lamb lies Down on Broadway, Genesis]

I can hear their siren call from upstairs here at my desk, music blaring, monitor making that high pitched whining sound that only me, my dogs and a few rodents can hear...but still I hear them whispering, taunting me with their sweetness, the hint of tart, the creamy mouthfeel of good chocolate.

Milk Chocolate Covered Cherries by Simply Enjoy.

Stupid product name saved by fabulous package graphics. And astoundingly good product quality for a grocery store.

For two weeks I've managed to keep the package sealed. I bought a box of dark chocolate for Fetch, milk chocolate for me. For this, the closing weekend of Virginia Faire.

Yes, it's going to be hot. But it's always hot closing weekend. It's going to be dry and really, that's the important thing here. Because this is the weekend. The weekend that determines our financial fortunes -- will we actually have the money to start flirting with ideas like: taking proper care of our cast, making stages worth standing on, shading all of the stage seating and stage space, flirting with the idea of an actual entertainment budget?

Yes, yes, it sounds like everyone and their brother will be there this weekend. Pardon me if at times I seem distracted; I'm simply multiplying your heads by a dollar amount.

I'm burnt, I'm fried, I'm a guttering candle -- and already people are starting with "now, for next year". I've been practicing saying "Hey, you know what, let me take a week, just one week, to relax and NOT think about the Faire, give myself a little re-boot, a little space to tie up all of the loose ends, get all of the receipts and expenses tidied up and taken care of."

Sadly, despite hours of practice, I still can't seem to say it without a rictus of rage, a serious tic under one eye...and frankly, although I haven't actually recorded the practice sessions, it still sounds more like "Back the F off, and let me breathe."

Well, I've got another day to practice. And I'm simmering a hee-yuge batch of mint simple syrup for mojitos at Celtic Fling, which might help improve my outlook.

Their (frozen) cream puffs and eclairs are fabulous. Especially the ones with chocolate topping and coffee filling.

Ooh, I'm hungry now....

Kick your web person to kick the server, because the varf.org site takes forevah to load.

And add in another $5 for Sunday.

It was probably being updated at the time...if you were checking it yesterday morning.

See ya there -- Brad and I have the IOC banner with us. I will figure out an appropriate ransom

Would you like to test your front gate people at all? >;D

No need to test them. They sit in an enclosed booth that is a good 10-20 degrees hotter than the outside ambient temperature and take tickets all day, the entire day, with barely any breaks. And they do it the whole run, with no complaints. And no pay.

So, say hey to Bob, Mimi, Sharon and the crew and if the service is less than excellent...well, it's not that I don't give a damn...but let's just say that I'm grateful that they do it at all.

They could be a innocent relative to "Those Damn Cherries" TM

They are quiet now. I ate the little bastards and they can cry no more.

(Remember that, next time you think about crossing me. I'm all about results.)

And I'm not the only one who has this problem as the shelf at Giant yesterday was wiped OUT. And wiped out of the Bumbleberry pies that I was specifically there to get.

So, Fetch will have to share the dark chocolate ones with me (although the dark chocolate ones don't compel me the way the milk chocolate ones do -- not enough contrast between the tart and sweet...)

The weather report is still at "no rain" this weekend and I have a slight hangover from mulba-tinis from last night. All is right with the world.

A mulba-tini is when you have chilled vodka, some limes and a mulberry tree dropping with ripe berries. I loooooove mulberries. Although the mulba-tini, invented by a neighbor, still needs work. We like the addition of my homemade mango vodka, last night. More experimentation is planned before mulberry season is over.
