|A movie to make you feel better about YOUR life

Hey, finding yourself sliding down the slope, heading for a good ol' self-pity wallow about how your life sucks...may I recommend The Magdalene Sisters -- This unflinching drama charts several years in the young lives of four "fallen women" who were rejected by their families and abandoned to the mercy of the Catholic Church in 1960s Ireland. While women's liberation sweeps the globe, these women are stripped of their liberty and dignity and condemned to indefinite servitude in The Magdalene Laundries, so that they may atone for their "sins." |
The movie is dismal enough -- but then you watch the documentary that the movie was based on, afterwards, and listen to these poor women who got sucked into this system tell their stories first-person.
Please note: I was not actually sliding down the slope into a full-out self-pity wallow myself -- just flirting with an all-out crabfest at being surrounded by idiots, nincompoops, incompetents and assholes. You know, typical sorta day, for me...
