|Frie-day, Frie-day, Frie-day....

I'm having a tapeworm day where nothing is seeming to assuage my appetite. Secretly I believe that a Dunkin Donuts Chocolate Glazed (glazed, poppets, glazed, frosting goes on a cake) would solve the problem. |
Of course, no one's brought in doughnuts, so I may be doomed to rifle my desk and mope until lunchtime. I've already eaten my breakfast toast and my 10:30 snack apple.
(I say ersatz because technically they aren't beignets, but, subtract sitting on wrought iron furniture, overlooking the Mississippi at a little cafe on the edge of the Garden district, and I dunno, they may even be better. We may have to both fly down to New Orleans, have her make a batch and try them side by side....)
It didn't help logging onto one of my favorite foodie websites: http://seriouseats.com and finding a recipe for beet rosti, which I now crave almost as much as the Chocolate Glazed. Probably more. But the Chocolate Glazed is more probable and I'm a practical kind of chick.
But what a fun day on that website -- I hate gum, but am loving the Dentyne ads. It's like my life, but with, well younger, skinnier, prettier people..with whiter teeth. Hmm. Maybe I should start chewing gum anyway...
The Intense Freezer Burn photo, sadly, looks familiar. The downstairs freezer isn't quite there...but well on its way. I really need to unplug and thaw that baby out. No, I really need a new, modern one that doesn't get all glaciery.
But the molecular gastronomy post....if that showed up on my plate, I'd be pulling out my slug ID book. (No, I don't have one. But if I saw one, I'd buy it) Personally I find the texture of foams and mousses to be nasty. But mostly, I don't want my food to be interesting-looking. I want it to look delicious, not clever. Like food, not like some architectural deconstruction project.
But enough of being lazy and using someone else's posts to exercise on. Yesterday I passed by a bumpersticker that read "Fueled by the Fallen.com".
What? I mean, I've worked on farms, I know what happens to the chickens when they die...they become chicken food. I've done a lot of research on fuels, energy, materials -- wow, this puts a whole new light on bio-diesel!
Note: it sounds like a lovely organization with good intentions. This ex-marketer and grammar prig suggests that Fueled FOR the Fallen would have been a little better...)
Now, back to the scintillating world of chafing fuel contracts, to see if I can't possibly wrap it up before I have to run home, change into Pirate and head to Piratz Tavern for Talk Like a Pirate Day. And look and act like I'm so thrilled to be there, instead of home, with my feet propped up, reading a book and sipping a glass of red wine.
